Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is stimulation through specific hand techniques applied to the hands, feet or face by gently nudging the body toward better function applying a "light touch" pressure to specific areas. This non-invasive process improves lymphatic drainage and venous circulation, muscle relaxation and stimulation to the nerve pathways. The feet have over 7,000 nerve endings. When this specific touch is applied, energy is released, removing blockages and enabling the body to begin healing. Each of these nerve endings correspond to organs and major systems in the body.

Is this a massage?

It is NOT a "foot rub" or simply a "foot massage". Reflexology is a complementary holistic therapy known to assist with the following:

_Foot Pain/Discomfort

_Stress/Anxiety

_Chronic Pain

_Migraines

_Digestive Issues

_Hormonal Imbalances

_Fatigue

_Sinus Issues/Congestion

_Allergies

_Lymph Drainage

_Respiratory Issues

_Constipation

_Sciatica

What does "holistic" mean?

In a nutshell, "holistic" means treating the whole person. (physically, emotionally and spiritually.

How long is a usual Reflexology session?

The length of the session is dictated by each client's health condition usually lasting between 45-60 minutes

Is Reflexology painful?

Happy Feet - Healthy Body practices the "light touch" method of Reflexology, so it is NOT painful. Any "tender" areas felt by you will indicate an imbalance in that part of the body. Our nerve endings are very sensitive, so the "light touch" is more readily received by the body.

What should I expect in my session?

You will be seating in a zero gravity recliner or massage table (depending on your individual needs). The temperature in the room will be adjusted to your liking. At the start of the session, the therapist will conduct a consultation, asking important questions about your health. The lights will be dimmed and you will listen to relaxing music. This is your time to relax, escape from the day and receive a healing therapy. Be kind to yourself and be prepared to silence your cell phone. Your therapist is prepared to let you relax and sleep or if you prefer to ask questions along the way about what area of the body is specifically being addressed at that moment.

What might I experience during or after my session?

Most clients comment that they experience relaxation during the treatment, a burst of energy and clear head shortly after the treatment, followed by a great night's sleep. However, because Reflexology is a holistic approach to health, the "healing crisis" or "health response" can include emotional and/or physical reactions.

Emotional: remembrance of unresolved past issues.

Physical: Could include increased or more frequent urination, nausea, headache, sleepiness, excess production of mucous, unusual fatigue, diarrhea, constipation or increased bowel movements, for example.

Why should I get Reflexology even if I receive regular body massage?

Massage addresses muscles, tendons, scar tissue and fascia. Reflexology address nerve endings, organs and body systems. Both therapies are important in their own right.

What is Clinical Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is a holistic therapy based on ancient medical systems that have been built up over thousands of years. The use of aromatic remedies is a much older form of treatment than allopathic or orthodox medicine. Unlike modern drugs, plant remedies and essential oils have been tried and tested over generations and known to treat the "whole body", producing both psychological and physiological effects as they are applied to the skin and absorbed into the bloodstream or diffused in the air. This is a "green" approach to health without all of the chemical side effects.
